Not another Memory Box!!!! Scrapbooking in Melbourne, Florida

Yes, another Memory Box! Tee hee. I tell ya, I just L*O*V*E these things! I trust it is the last one I will make for a while. I have previously posted one I made for my mom, one made for me....I also made them for my two sisters, but haven't photographed those yet.

ANYwho.....here are a couple of photos of my latest version. This is intended to be used as a wedding, shower or anniversary gift to hold those fragile wedding momentos. Because the box has a magnetic closure, you can stand it up on a bookshelf if you'd like, and it will stay closed! What you can't tell from the photo is that I used our super-pearly Pearlescent Paint on the flower to the right of the photograph. I also kept the project pretty simple so that I could keep the price down by using just one Level I Silhouette Paper Pack for each person.

I am going to see my baby tomorrow! My mom is house-sitting the kitties and I am heading to Gainesville for a couple of days (Go Gators!). We have had torrential showers all week, so I am hoping to slip through the raindrops.

When did this happen? Scrapbooking in Melbourne, Florida

Wow! This bloggin' has a life of its own, doesn't it? I've been posting for less than a month and have over a thousand hits....you guys rock!

So who are you viewers out in blog world? In my fantasy life, Bruce Springsteen is a faithful viewer and logs on every night before his concert. He doesn't comment so that he can maintain his anonymity. But he is secretly making his own scrapbook with clipping of all his favorite posts. *sigh* Yeah, right. tee hee.

Seriously, though, I appreciate each and every one of you who muddles through my musings to get to the scrapbooking. Now I am inspired to try to do a better job.

So here's a creation inspired by my amazing upline, Annette. She used the Emporium paper pack to cover CTMH's My Creations(TM) Artboard. I 'lifted' her idea of making a pull-out photo mat that slides into the frame.

You may be able to tell (by viewing the top of the frame) that I used our Pearl Paint, mixed with Sorbet reinker, on the chipboard dimensional frame. It is so smooth and shiny. I just LOVE this Unforgettable paper pack. It's simply perfect!

I'm holding a class for this project on July 18. Or if you are not near Melbourne, Florida, I'd be glad to sell you a pre-cut kit.

Do you have plans for Memorial Day weekend? It's never too early to plan for the weekend, even if it's only Monday! As long as you don't wish your life away longing for the weekend, as I have been known to do. I've come to realize that each moment is precious. It sounds a bit trite, I know, but I'm finally 'allowing' myself to spend my time how I want to, not how I think I should. I've had that 'disease to please' all my life and I'm afraid I've passed it on to my son. There are pros and cons to this, of course.....I'm trying to embrace the pros *smile*.

Sacrifice the Camera, but Grab the Paper!!! - Scrapbooking in Melbourne, Florida

Well. You know you're a scrapbooker when.........
you spill your Cherry Diet Dr. Pepper (at your own Open House) at the make 'n take table, and instead of grabbing your camera, you grab the paper! Goodness gracious. Yes, I did it again. I am a major klutzoid. I should know better than to have an open cup near my paper. Aimee had to stamp her card all over again. Terri and Susan ran for paper towels and scooped everything up.


Luckily, I had placed supplies at two different tables, so half of the paper was saved. The jury is still out on my camera. I'm waiting for it to dry out. Will I ever learn? Probably not ;-)

I have the most wonderful scrapbookin' friends. My feet tell me that my Open House is finished and tonight is reserved for bloggin', couch potatoin' and watchin' "You've Got Mail". I've probably watched it over a dozen times, but it is on tv tonight, so I must watch it. It's nice background buzz while I'm blogging.


Here are photos of a little album I made for my August class. It was the most popular class, judging from the number of people who signed up. This is not my typical style. I like more vintage, muted colors. If I do go for a bright color, it's usually not a primary color. But I have to tell you, there's something to be said for thinking outside the proverbial box (every time my boss mention thinking outside the box, I want to choke him. Good Lord). I think this turned out rather cute, and I used a lot of new CTMH items. I tried to post every page, but it has taken me two hours to post these photos, so this is it. My favorite page is the most simple - the back cover with the cute little giraffe. I hope you like it too!

My baby! - Scrapbooking in Melbourne, Florida

My baby is coming home! WOOHOO!!!! He finished his last finals and will be home from college this weekend for a few days before the summer term starts. I cannot WAIT!!!!!! I'm just a little excited about it, you see.

Here's a little mini-journal I made for my mom that goes with the Memory Keeper Box that I posted a couple of days ago. My hopes were that she would jot down childhood memories as they came to her. My family is one of those 'sweep it under the rug' families that doesn't share a lot.....so I was hoping this would be a way of learning some important details of my mom's life. So far it's blank...but there's still hope, right?

My Beautiful Mother - Scrapbooking in Melbourne, Florida

As I mentioned yesterday, here's another Memory Box. I love making these! This one was a Christmas gift for my mom. Yes, that's her on the cover. Isn't she beautiful? What you don't see is her beautiful spirit. I want to be just like her when (if) I grow up!

My mom used to be crafty when I was young. One of our funniest family stories revolves around a little sewing/redecorating project she embarked on many years ago. We had this big old wooden-based chair on our Florida room. Sort of like a modern-day Adirondack chair, but clunkier with an open bottom (seat). Their were thick cushions on the back and in the seat.

Well, one fine warm day my mom decided she would cover those ugly old cushions. I guess it was a three-fold venture - covering those nasty old things, being a little creative along the way, and enjoying the challenge. We do love a challenge! Well, my mom had made cushion covers for these bulky cushions (Lord, they were about 30 inches across - like a modern-day chair-and-a-half, now that I think about it). She was standing in the Florida room, struggling to get that cushion crammed into the cover she had made, when a lightbulb went off in her head (in her words, 'I had a brainstorm!'). 'Well, why in the world am I standing here doing this when I could be sitting down???'. So she backed herself up to the chair, leaned back and sat right down in that big old chair.....straight down to the floor! After all, the seat cushion was in her hand!!!

Now, in our family, whenever anyone falls or trips, we get the giggles, no matter how serious it is. She could have broken her tail bone and we would have been rolling on the floor, my mom included!

Don't ask me how she got up.....folded up in their like a pretzel, with the cushion on top of her. We were all too little to help, if we could have.

I guess you had to be there!

My favorite project - Scrapbooking in Melbourne, Florida

One of my favorite Close To My Heart products is the "My Creations Memory Keeper". I have made four of them now, and this one is still my favorite. I used Jeanette Lynton's pattern without any changes. You can view a tutorial on making this box, as well as written instructions and cutting directions, by watching MyCTMH TV's Art and Soul episode "Scrapbooking the Non-Traditional" here.

The Memory Keeper is a sturdy box (approximately 10" x 10") with a magnetic closure. A cool feature is that it closes flat for shipping, so it makes an awesome gift.

I'm currently creating a Wedding Keepsake Box using our elegant "Silhouette" paper pack. When finished, I'll post it here. I'll be offering a workshop for anyone who would like to make one for either their own wedding treasures or as a cherished gift. I'll also offer a kit version for those of you out of the area.

Here is the inside cover, complete with vintage tags. The tutorial leaves the inside blank, so I ceated this part on my own.This paper packet is "Notebook" by Close To My Heart. I also used coordinating Stickease and Big Pinks Just Blooms.

Well, I'm off to watch my beloved Dodgers beat the Astros (I hope so, anyway)! Their games are rarely televised here in Florida, so I drink them in whever I get the chance!
